Caster hardware is an important part of your wheelchair and unfortunately, it's not maintenance free. Keeping the crud from building up around the caster spacers and bearings is essential for prolonging the life of the casters and/or bearings. Occasionally cleaning out unwanted debris can make a big difference with the performance of the chair and longevity of the parts. It's a good idea to replace these caster screws from time to time as the phillips head can get a little worn and start to slip when tightening and un-tightening. It's also a good idea to keep a few extras around in case you ever lose one.
