When only the best quality will do.. Dynolight Rollers were designed following a request from British Athletics in 2015. They required race chair training rollers suitable for air travel to the Rio Paralympic Games. Now, Dynolight indoor racing wheelchair rollers are sold all over the world as the best quality indoor trainer on the market!
Portable training rollers were needed that would work effectively but be light enough to avoid airline excess baggage costs. For training rollers to work well they need to provide momentum to the wheels of the race chair. The roller drums’ weight provides this momentum, so by their very nature training rollers tend to be heavy. To resolve the weight versus momentum issue we incorporated fillable roller drums into our design. NOTE: Custom built per order.
Two versions available:
Standard aluminium weight = 12 lbs (5.5kg)
Carbon fibre weight = 10.8 lbs (4.9kg)
Weights are based on empty drums and include a front wheel stand.
By filling either one pair or both pairs of roller drums with kiln-dried sand the overall weight can be increased by up to an additional 8kg. Each pair of roller drums will hold up to 4kg of kiln-dried sand. Filled roller drums will result in an easier training session than leaving all four drums empty.
Some static single drum training rollers weigh in excess of 60kg, these will always have more momentum than portable versions due to the inertia of the rotating drums’ mass. However, since launching Dynolight Rollers® feedback suggests some athletes actually prefer lighter drums as they don’t “run away from them”. In other words, when the athlete is up to speed more effort is required to keep the rollers going at a constant velocity. Empty rollers make it a harder but more effective training session - the choice to fill them is yours.
If the rollers are going to be left in situ, for example during winter training most athletes keep them filled with sand. Then in the summer racing months when being transported to events, they remain empty for portability.
Both versions are light enough to take anywhere; outdoor track events in the summer and indoor training all year round. They are perfect for use at competitions if there is no warm-up track available, or even if there is, take Dynolight Rollers® along for a more comfortable warm-up in the shade!
As Dynolight Rollers® are of modular build they can accommodate race chairs of: any width, any size wheel, any track width* and any frame design. *The distance between rear wheels at ground level.
In the case of a child, replacement middle tubes can be purchased later to reflect the change in race chair size as the user grows.
Dynolight Rollers® are shipped semi-assembled so no specialist tools are required to get your training started. Connections are made with thumb screws. Complete dismantling to fit in a rucksack with room for a helmet, gloves and water bottle will require a 5mm allen/Hex key.
